UO.CFG FILE
This is where the UO configuration files are kept. Listed below are some of the lines that are customizable. Some of these will not appear unless added. Values can be "on", "off", "yes", "no", "true", "false". The uo.cfg is not case sensitive. AcctID=(ASCII string) - Your account name. AcctPassword=(encrypted string) Your encrypted account password. Remember to NOT enable 'Remember Password' and that you should NEVER give your uo.cfg file to anyone. AllowPathfind=(yes/no) - Defaults to "on" and must be added manually. Auto-pathfinding can be a little annoying, most seem to prefer it disabled. AllowWindowResize=(yes/no) - Toggles the Big Window option, try disabling it if you have video problems. AssumePlayAsGhost=(yes/no) - When set to "on", you will bypass the confirmation plaque on whether you want to play as a ghost or resurrect with penalties, instead you will always play as a ghost upon death. AutoArrangedMinimzed=(on/off) - This toggle will turn on automatic arranging of minimized gumps to preset locations, rather than sticking them all in the corner. BarkTimeModifier=(0-999) - Sets how long speech remains on screen (default is 300, about 4 seconds). ScaleBarkTimes=(On/Off) - a toggle to adjust whether or not the duration of the text scales itself based on the length of the text displayed. CacheSize=(size in MB) - This will usually be set to 25 for a 25MB cache file size. This doesn't include memory that Windows puts in it's own swap file so be sure to have plenty of free space on the hard drive. CensorBlood=(on/off) - Defaults to "on", set to "off" for no blood CensorFlesh=(on/yes) - Defaults to "on", when set to "off", chopped-up body parts are not drawn. EnableMessenger=(on/off) - Default is "on" and doesn't appear unless manually added. Toggles the Ultima Messenger on or off. If you use WinProxy, you will need to disable this feature. FilterPassword==(on/off) - enables password for the obscenity filter. Footsteps=(yes/no) - A sound toggle for footsteps. Setting this to 'No' will decrease latency. FrameSkipping=(yes/no) - This will make the client attempt to skip draw frames when the time spent drawing becomes too high (You may notice an improvement in performance when in crowded areas). This can also cause "stuttering" in the image if your video card cannot keep up. FullScreen=(on/off) - Controls the full screen toggle. Try this set to 'off' if you are having trouble with UO locking at a blank screen upon startup, and check your DirectX compatibility. FullScreenRes=(640x480/800x600/1024x768) - Toggles screen res for the Big Window. HoldTabForCombat=(on/off) - When set to "off", you hit "Tab" to go into combat mode, then tap it again to return to Peace mode. If set to "on" you have to hold "Tab" continuously to remain in War mode. JournalSaveFile=(path) - Saves all text from the Journal. This file will get extremely large, so you must check and delete it regularly. LastTip=(#) The number of the tip shown at the last login. Music=(on/off) - Music Toggle. MusicVol=(0-255) - Sets volume level. NotorietyQuery=(on/off) - Disables/enables the "This will flag you criminal" message. ObscenityFilter=(on/off) - Obscenity filter toggle. OffsetGumps=(on/off) - If you set this to "on" or "yes", containers will offset from the place where the last one opened. If you set it to "off" or "no", then the container windows will always open on top of another. OrderCache=(Startup/Off) - If you did not do a full install, setting this to Startup will load info off the CD into the hard drive cache when you launch UO. This can improve game performance, but it will take longer for UO to start. PageFlip=(on/off/gdi) - Applies to fullscreen mode. "Off" may be faster but the display may not be as smooth and there may be some tearing of the image. "gdi" avoids using DirectDraw as much as possible while still in fullscreen. If you have a problem with an image remaining on the screen, where you can use your cursor to 'paint' it away to reveal the image beneath, setting this to 'gdi' should fix it. There can be conflicts between DirectDraw and GDI depending on the DirectX drivers on the PC, try updating any drivers. PlayerName=(ASCII string) - The name of the character you logged on with last. PopupHelpPreDelay=(0-5000) - Changes the time before Popup Help appears when you hover your mouse over an object SavePassword=(on/off) - Enables saving of password in UO.cfg. Keep this set to 'off'; it's not safe to save your password. ScaleBarkTimes=(yes/no) - A toggle to adjust whether or not the duration scales is based on the length of the text displayed. ShowIncomingNames=(on/off) - Default is on, toggles character names on or off. ShowIntroAnim=-(on/off) - Disables/enables intro animation. Default setting is "on". ShowTips=(yes/no) - Toggles the tips displayed upon entering Britannia on or off. Sound=(on/off) - Sound toggle. SoundVol=(0-255) - Sets volume level. StatReport=(on/off) - Toggles stat bars on or off. Default is on. TranslationServer=(on/off) - Turns translation server on and off. You can also rename the transerv.exe file to transerv.bak, remember to set the file to the original name when downloading updates, otherwise the patch will fail. TranslationServerAutomatic=(on/off) - Toggles the automatic translation of any foreign text appearing on your screen, if set to "on" it may significantly reduce game performance when a translation occurs. TranslationServerClickTranslation=(on/off) - When the translation server is enabled and you have TranslationServerAutomatic=off, you can set this to "on" and can click on foreign text to translate it, as opposed to having it automatically translated. UnicodeSpeech=(On/Off) - Enables you to see text that is typed in Unicode format. If you do not have The Second Age this line will need to be manually added. Without this line the text of some players will not be visible. UseCircleTrans=(yes/no) - This toggle will create a small transparency circle around your character. It will allow you to see behind walls (mainly to get items), and find players trying to hide behind buildings. Use565=(On/Off) - This fixes mouse cursor problems, set this to 'on' if there is a square around the UO mouse pointer. If you have set your desktop to 32-bit color this may cause the introduction animation to look strange. Try setting to 'on' if you are having display problems. |
